If you’re worried or nervous about your ability to cope with your pregnancy and childbirth, then you’re not alone, many women feel this way. However, by coming along to my Confident Childbirth sessions, it’s possible to transform those feelings to enable you to look forward to the birth of your baby with more confidence and contentment.
Fear can prevent us from allowing our bodies to give birth they way they’re naturally designed to, calmly and confidently. Have you ever found yourself crying at a sad film or book, or gripping a cushion and hiding your face when watching a scary movie? These kinds of reactions are involuntary physical responses to external stimuli and we all experience them to some extent in our everyday life. Perhaps you’ve noticed it when visiting the dentist or hospital or going into an interview or exam, our heart rates increase, our breathing changes and we possibly get hot and cold, maybe even become a little shaky. If you’ve heard scare stories about painful, long pregnancies, seen women screaming in agony on tv or grown up believing that it’s an agonising experience, the chances are you’ve been affected and feel nervous and anxious. When we feel nervous and anxious, we experience the fight or flight response which causes our muscles to become tense and makes childbirth a longer and more painful experience. By learning how to let go of those negative thoughts and control your physical responses you can remain calm, in control, and able to trust your body to stay more relaxed and the whole experience can be calmer and easier.
Some women want help in overcoming memories of a difficult previous birth experience. Other people want to feel more in control of the experience, and others want to learn how to deal more calmly with their new baby and feel more confident in their role as a new parent.
Confident Childbirth is uniquely flexible and respectful of your wishes and needs so we can guide you towards achieving the birth experience that’s uniquely right for you.
Self-hypnosis is a completely natural state that you’re already achieving every day, when you’re absorbed in daydreaming while washing up, reading a book, driving the car and many other times during the day. You’ll learn how to take yourself in and out of this relaxed state so that you can stay calm and relaxed whenever you want to.
You’ll learn several easily achievable pain control techniques which will increase your birthing options and can increase your choices around whether you choose pain relief medication or not.

Having powerful and effective communications skills can be very empowering and enable you to feel included in the decisions being taken, leading to a more satisfying and happy birth experience. You’ll benefit from their knowledge, experience and expertise while confidently expressing your wishes, needs and feelings about what’s going on in your body. You’ll learn how to ask questions with confidence and express yourself helpfully and clearly to your medical team. Pain relief medication and interventions can be positive options and part of a good birth experience when confidently selected.
